Australian wine exports grow in average value and volume
Australian wine exports grew in both average value and volume last year, according to the latest Wine Export Approvals Report December 2012, released by Wine Australia today. The report showed Australian wine exports increased by 3 per cent to 721 million litres (valued at A$1.85 billion) and the average value per litre increased, with bottled wine up 3 per cent to A$4.43 per litre and bulk wine up 2 per cent to A$1.03 per litre.

New Partnership to Bolster Australia’s Wine and Tourism Marketing Push
International marketing of two of Australia's biggest export sectors - wine and tourism - is about to be bolstered by a new three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tourism Australia and Wine Australia, announced today.

Why is Prosseco Charming the World?
The Italian wine authorities have now protected the name of "Prosseco" to a geographically defined area outside Venice. However, Prosecco is also the internationally recognised and authorised name of the grape variety that is used to make this very popular sparkling wine. There is no actual place called "Prosseco". Is this debate heading in the direction of the protection now afforded to Claret and other generic names with European origins?

New Chair for Wine Australia
Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, Senator Joe Ludwig, has today announced the appointment of Mr George Wahby as the new chairperson of the Wine Australia Corporation. Mr Wahby will lead Wine Australia as it develops new programs to increase sales of Australian wine and improve profits to the Australian wine industry.

An outstanding graduation event to commemorate the new Level 4 Diploma graduates based in Australia has been held in Sydney. All ten Diploma graduates and their guests celebrated this milestone at Fix St James restaurant where renowned wines from Fine Wine Partners and Wines of Australia’s Landmark Australia range were served. A+ Australian Wine Celebration kicks off
April is officially Australian Wine Month as the A+ Australian Wine Celebration kicks off across the country. Australians are being called on to get out and get involved in the country's biggest collaboration of wine events.

Tony D'Aloisio, the former Chairman of the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), will be the next President of the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia. He will succeed Barossa winemaker Peter Schulz, whose term concludes on 31 March 2012.
Industry Bodies Seek Merger
Industry Bodies Seek Merger of Statutory Authorities The wine sector’s peak industry bodies have formally proposed a merger of the Wine Australia Corporation (WAC) and Grape & Wine Research & Development Corporation (GWRDC). The Winemakers’ Federation of Australia (WFA) and Wine Grape Growers Australia (WGGA) have agreed a process and timeline to create a single, levy-funded statutory authority by January 2014.

Changes to Wine Export Approval System
Changes to Wine Export Approval System Australia has changed its approach to wine export approval, replacing mandatory pre-export testing with a more rigorous auditing presence. Exporters now do not need to submit each wine and wine label for approval, unless requested to do so. However, they must be licensed, comply with all health and safety requirements, be subject to audit and provide wine for comprehensive testing as required.
